Update
I'm lazy this morning, so I'm not going to try to update my old threads:
Finally got a decent shop to replace the NATIONALLY-KNOWN-BRAND-NAME muffler that was dragging the ground. They had to do some bending of the front pipe since the constant pushing forward every time I backed out of the driveway and had forced the pipe and the resonator forward ( and down ). They used a really tasteful glass pack for a muffler. It sounds good and isn't loud. It's also 3 inches or so in diameter ( instead of 6 ).
And Hooray! I've finally gotten the OD straightened out. Thanks to Doc Entropy and TwigWorker and others for their advice. I ended up draining the whole mess once more, pulling both the relief valve and the solenoid valve, cleaning it all up, and refilling with 6 and 1/2 pints of oil. I added a half pint of Marvel Mystery Oil to that.
Been driving it for way more than enough miles to reproduce the problem and so far, it's working fine. The OD feels a touch more positive than it used to, but not rough.
Now of course, I've revealed another evil. Now that everything is clean, the shifter has gotten a noisy tick-buzz when not held in my hand!
Figures, don't it?
