Update on the GT

Can't remember what or when I posted last, but the engine/transmission are in. Got the clutch bled yesterday, so I think that's ready to go. There is no slave cylinder; it has a hydraulic throwout bearing - something quite new to me. It's essential that the bearing is installed with close tolerance to the pressure plate, so I'm pretty nervous about whether it's in there properly. If not, the whole shootin' match has to come out! Guess I'll find out when I finally start it up...

Have some more wiring to do, and have to run the fuel line, install fuel pump, button up TONS of bolts, install intake manifold and carb, bleed the brakes, finish the interior, etc., etc.

I have the A/C and heat system ordered, and when they come in, I can install the compressor, condenser, and radiator. Once all this is done, it should be ready for its initial startup.

Just when it seems like I'm getting close, I look at all that's left to do!

Re: Update on the GT

Mickey, sounds like you've made excellent progress. And, what's a resto job without having to pull the gearbox out a couplea times?

I did it so many times while restoring my GT6 that I believe I could do it blindfolded.

Please post some pics when you get a chance. Sounds like a nice car.

Cheers and Happy New Year to you and yours.

Mick, What's this?

Re: Update on the GT

That is going to be an awesome car! Really high standard. I think someone posted the Frontline GT a while back - mostly about the high cost! Classics Monthly this month has an article about the car. Might be worth checking out particularly as they seem to have made some really good decisions about making the car more driveable and "modern" in a good way.

That's the mask for my superhero alter-ego.

Steel dash that I restored.

Frontline GT

Thanks, J-P. That Frontline's gonna be a great car - but way too rich for my blood!

'Course, by the time I've finished this one, it may be a bargain!

Don't look at the cost - look at the specs - you might want to incorporate some of their upgrades - like AC, electric windows etc.etc

Re: Update on the GT

A/C? Check; order is placed, and should be here before long.

Power windows? No way!

Going to be an awesome car when done Mickey! Will it be drivable by next Summer? PJ

Thanks, Paul. That's the plan. I hope to have it up and running this spring. Just need more than two hours at a time to work on it!

The first trip will be down to Birmingham to show it to Tony's family.

Re: Update on the GT

Very, very nice!
Tony would be proud!

It's funny; I recall a thread where I was chatting with Tony about some of the body panels on Storm Fields V8 GT racer. Tony was interested in sourcing for some of those body panels.

In fact, On That Same Thread , I began exchanging email with the original poster, Tom Leavey (AKA "obsesstoration").
Tom and his wife Kim are now friends of Linda and I and we usually park next to each other at races. Here's us.
Tom got interested in vintage racing after a ride in Micheal Oritt's big Healey. It's a small world.

All of that seem like ages ago, but it's only in the last few years.
It's still bittersweet for me to see an old posting by Tony.

Re: Update on the GT

I had no intention of doing another car for quite a while after completing the TR8. And I certainly had no intention of selling it!

But the possibility of taking on and completing one of Tony's projects was just too enticing to pass on. And it'll stay in the family, to a certain extent.

And every time I bust my knuckles on it, Tony's name gets "invoked"! :jester:

Re: Update on the GT

By the way, I'm working on a write-up of the whole thing, and will post it in the "Articles" section when done.

Re: Update on the GT

Good to hear you're making progress. That's going to be quite the car when it's all buttoned up.
