Update on heater box refurbishment
Well after wearing hair shirts and beating myself up over the tube replacement into the heater box, it is all finished, and looking back on it the job, was fairly easy and nothing to have worried about. I must say that I have a BJ7 and I had removed the dash so any car up to that mark would be easyish to work on.
It was just as well as one of the tubes split in two upon removal so I was lucky. I have used the correct tube at the front - it has a 90 degree bend in it and positioned the clips such that I can get a spanner on them if there are any signs of weeping.
I did find that by placing a small plastic garden table over the gear box area ( my gearbox is currently out but it would work with the gearbox in) and using some timber packing, aided the replacement, especially when it came to connecting up the air duct. You have both hands free. I left the rubber grommets out of the bulkhead and just pushed the rubber tubes through, that also made things easier. Using some washing up liquid on the tubes the grommets slid up easier and then with a little red rubber grease I eased them into the holes with the aid of a blunt ( rounded edges) flat blade screwdriver.
