Update on Harold
Work on Harold has slowed a little, but progress is steady. This weekend I have been fixing Harold's bonnet, and continuing with fitting carpet.
The bonnet repair is beginning to look quite decent. I found that the central bonnet catch hole (the one that mates with the spring thing on the underside of the centre of the bonnet) was shifted to the left, which wasn't helping the alignment. I spent some time shimming thin layers of putty over the wrinkled front edge of the bonnet, sanding, and so forth. Now it is as smooth as a baby's bottom. It also looks even and symmetrical!
I installed new seatbelts ... the originals were frayed and crusty.
I've also been painting over the repairs I made to the tailgate and front skirt near the windscreen. The latter area has been very ticklish to get looking nice.
I bought some rear seats on Ebay, which are black and in pretty good condition. Much better than the originals which were dark blue and full of holes. I rejuvenated the black vinyl using Luxol leather cream. Not correct for the material, but it made a huge difference to the seat's appearance.
Next jobs on the horizon:
1) Painting the bonnet
2) Replacing the windscreen seal
3) Attaching the sill covers I got from Tony
One question: the windscreen washer nozzle at the centre of the windscreen skirt is loose: I can twist it this way and that. I'm worried that the pipe may be loose on the underside, but getting to the underside is non-obvious. Any advice most welcome!
