Unusual use for Viagara

Did anyone else see the news feature recently about the premature baby boy in the UK that was not able to breathe properly? Apparently the child's lungs were not fully formed, and even with oxygen and a ventliator he was fighting a losing battle.

Doctors reckoned that they had nothing to lose, and so they gave the child Viagara in the hope that it would act to open up the tiny blood vessels in the lungs.....and it worked!

Here's a link to the full story:-

Wow great story.

I've dispesed Viagra several times for pediatric use. It is an excellent vasodilator (obviously)..and has a lot of potential uses outside of erectile dysfunction.

~actual~ medicinal uses! That's great. Mebbe the darned SPAM ads will slow down once that word gets around...

hey ...a fella can dream, can't he?!? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

hmmmmmm... ~OR~ they'll start advertising the _other_ uses for the stuff... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

BTW...I've also dispensed both Viagra and Cialis to patients being treated by Pain Management specialists.

The vasodilation effects apparently decrease the ever increasing demands of the body for opiates and their derivatives...leading to a decrease in narcotic use by these individuals. I'm not sure if this decreases potential addiction (I doubt it)...but it at least prolongs the time before a patient "maxes out" on a drug dose.

Actually, Viagra was discovered to treat "ED" when it was being developed as a vascular dilator, so actually, it is the original use.

I mentioned this to my wife last night. A client came into her clinic that was given this for a respiratory problem. She told me the original use was for better blood flow. I'm curious who said "MMM I go t an idea. Hey lookie here!!! Bingo!"

Hmmm the all new Duct-viagra! or Viagra-D-40.
Shows just how single minded our culture is that we're just realising that it works for other things too(even though like has been said, It was developed for those other things in the first place)

Those TV ads would not be nearly as entertaining now, would they?!

We use it at the hospitals where I work to keep the male patients from rolling out of bed.

Brits have been using it for years, hehe...stiff upper lip, what? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif
