TR2/3/3A Unknown holes

Hi, I'm near to completing the restoration of my 59 3a but have 2 holes that I can't identify. They are located on the top of the bulkhead between the rear view mirror and the dash top. They are equally spaced in a line between each fixing for the mirror and the tenax fasteners on the dash top itself. I thought that they may have been used for aero screens at some point but there are no other holes elsewhere-any ideas?
One point worth noting, I have my concerns regarding my bulkhead in that I'm fairly sure it's been changed at some point in the cars history; the reason I say this is that the brackets (and corresponding holes/recesses) that support the windscreen pillars were not the dzus type & therefore from a post TS6000 car?

Many thanks
Graeme

Morning Graeme, I am in the same "near to finish" as you are. My car is a post 60,000 car and the windscreen mounting is totally different than the earlier cars. The stanchilons mount with two large screws too captive nuts on the back of the bulkhead. If you do not have the right stanchions you might have a problem. On the other hand I don't know anything about the mounting difference, just that it is different. so perhaps someone with more info will chime in to help you out.

Cheers Dick

My post 60k body has a plate welded on the inside for the stanchion screws. If you have raised hood hinge plinths that would be a post60k .

Thanks Tom/Dick, Don't suppose either of your cars has the 2 additional holes that I've got on my bulkhead in front of thie rear view mirror?
Graeme

I know my car is a 1956 and does not have the holes you mention, in fact there is only about 1" between the mirror bracket and the dash capping. The PO may have had some sort of accessory mounted, map light or compass. As for the mounting holes for the screens they would be about 3" left and right of the mirror bracket screw holes. Are you sure the capping will not cover the holes when installed?

Keith

No Im afraid not Keith, I installed the capping this evening, looks great but it doesn't cover the holes. They are in fact very small & I suspect took a very small self tapper at some point; wish I'd thought about this prior to painting!!
