Understanding the heater linkage

I spent the day installing the fire wall grommets on my 1960 BE. Much of what passed through the firewall was jumbled and disordered.

One issue that has arisen has to do with the linkage from the heater control to the heater itself. My cable seems to be a little bit short. Also, the cable does not have an end on it, it is just the wire end of a cable. It appears to me the the cable should have a ball or disc on it, much like the end of a bicycle handbrake cable, and that should be used to open/close the baffle to the heater.

Can someone give me a description of what the cable should look like? Also, can you describe how it connects to the heater? Finally, if my cable has been cut short, can I repair it?

Thanks,
Mike Pennell

Has a brass thing with a screw in it to lock the cable to the flapper shaft outer cable is also attached to the flapper assy. Check the Moss diagram.

Jack:

Thanks for the info. I studied the different parts catalogues and found what I must be missing (they're calling it a trunion).

Just as an FYI: I got a Moss Europe catalogue after ordering from them. They seem to carry a somewhat wider variety of parts than Moss US.

Another FYI: I replaced all the firewall grommets in my BE. Most of these I found in the "non-Bugeye" section of the Moss catalogue.
