MGB Ultimate year MGB

Various people selling their MGB's say "this was the ultimate year for the MGB". I realize anyone selling a car might say this but aside from personal likes and nostalgia, is there a "best year" for an MGB?

Bruce

Not an MG guy, but I think if you look at what the horsepower was year by year that would be one clue (conclusion will be similar to answer above?).

Pretty sure 71 was the highest HP year, but I agree 67 is the best. Looking to trade up from my 77, as I live in California and will NEVER be smog exempt.. Use to hae a 67 and a 71.

Sigh

Definately an early 65 B. Early 5 main but pullhandles, stap tank, and all the other bits from the earlier cars. James

Well, being strictly pedantic, since 19979 nwas the penultimate year" for the MGB, 1980 is literally the Ultimate Year for the MGB. Which mine happens to be. But really? 1967 would have to be my vote.

I agree with James. Pull handle '65. I saw a nice one at Euro 2004 with a Rover V8, front coil overs, rear disc brakes, 5 spoke aluminum wheels, and miata seats!

I may be biased, but a late '64 to early '65 gets my vote. Early body, pull handles, early seats, early door top rails, metal dash, no side reflectors or reverse lights and a 5-main engine. For GT, I would vote '67.

Ok - but why?

Bruce

I might be a bit prejudiced, but the 74 is my favorite...last year of the chrome bumpers, but had modern folding top, 3 point belts and a few other improvements. I must agree that the 67 is tops in the drivetrain area... five main and syncro tranny with overdrive. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I must admit, my 69 was my favoirte though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Of course, being the bias person I am with cars, I must say 1974 MGB. But if I had my choice...I would pick, I think its an MGB GT v8. If I am correct, it was only produced in Britain. I pick that one because, I like to go as fast as possible. As you can tell from my accident /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Anybody happen to notice that Emgebe likes the 69s? Jeesh, ya'd think he owns one or somthin'. On that note, YEA 69!! but Don't look at my signature... Hey! I said don't look down there.

Theres nothing quite like a whole heap of chicks pulling up next to the B asking...

"What year is it?"

reply...

"Sixty Nine BABY! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif"

I have nothing else to say... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
