for me the sound of a v8 in a tr just doesn't fit.

Pardon Me? Triumph did design a V8 from Scratch, real Triumph, every part with its own unique Triumph sound that is like no other V8.

Very true Glen, but I think he was referring to just the TR line - not Triumphs in general. Though I do know of someone who put the Stag engine in a TR250 ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

OH now THAT is guilding the Lilly for sure, and I have seen one or two real nice TR250 V8 conversions. However I would not convert such a rare car. My 3rd Triumph was a TR250, I added OD and some Triumph Tune items that were all
period modifications from the day. I happened to love the exhaust note of all my Triumphs for what they were ... 4 bangers, 6 bangers or my Stags. Each one was unique. But after having owned and worked professionally on Triumphs, it has been the note of the Triumph V8 in a Stag with stock exhaust that forever caught my ear.
On "TR's", well they are ALL TRiumphs aren't they? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
