General TR U-Joint Grease fitting interferes

I am in the process of fitting new u-joints to my rear axle half shafts. They are NAPA brand. My issue is that the grease fittings are straight but rather long and come out of the joint body at about a 25 degree angle. This causes an interference problem b/t the yoke and grease fitting when at an extreme angle.

Is this a concern and, if so, what to do?

Thanks

Bob

Can you simply replace the zerk with a shorter one? You may need to save the long one and swap it on when you need to grease the joint (that's what I do as some short ones on mine are so deep in there that the grease gun fitting won't fit).

:iagree:

Or substitute an allen screw, and keep the long one for maintenance.

Thanks. Both great ideas. I still have to do the left side joints. I'll try reversing them on that side. If that works, I'll go back to the right side, remove and reverse too. If not, I'll go for the short fitting or an allen plug.

Thanks
