Unidirectional (Sprague) clutch installed backward or not functioning?

Aloha Guys, I just installed a Tr6 tranny w/ J o/d. I overhauled both units. Tranny is fine but the o/d has problem. When I operate the o/d it runs the pressure up to approx 500# goes into /d then heats up and smokes and stalls the engine. Any ideas??? Mahalo, Tom
 
First, I'd advise you against driving the car until this is sorted out, both for safety and repair reasons. Driving it in this condition could ruin the transmission.

I agree that it may be a unidirectional clutch problem. However, probably 90 percent of J type OD problems tend to involve the solenoid. You might also check the filter screen to see if it's clogged.

Thanks guys! I did check with Nelson Riedel of Buckeye and I did find I put the clutch in backwards. I used zNelson info on rebuilding both tranny and o/d. Mahalo, Tom

Are you kidding or did you really put the clutch in backwards? Is that possible? My naivete is showing.
