I have a 56 TR3 that is slowly coming back to life. As I dream ahead, I'm starting to think of colour options. I've seen some very nice two-tone treatments. Although I assume none were "original" I'd be interested in seeing what others have done. Looking to see pictures posted here, links to existing websites, or if you prefer pictures sent to me by email for inspiration. Cheers, Mike

Not exactly two-tone, but this might give some food for thought.

That's great pic of Nick's TR3. I'm using it as the wallpaper on my PC now.

Nice two-tone paint ... and the colours I was considering, although I'd thought of green on top and cream on sides

Here's a couple I snapped at Watkins last fall:

And ISTR seeing an early photo of Phil Hill in a two-tone TR2(?), but I can't find it on the net at the moment.

Here are three that I have spotted on eBay over the years. There don't seem to be that many about.

I have to admit that I am still not convinced with the two-tone even after owning the car for 17 years. I have really kept it because I can't afford a good full respray and also in homage of the previous American owners work. I do think that if I ever gave the car a bit of a rebuild I would return it to all white.
However, the car is never confused with anyone else's and I don't loose it if I go to a TR show!

I think the two-tone paint makes the car look a little narrow from straight on.

Nick-

For what its worth I do like your paint treatment, I also like the hardtop car I spotted before. Definitely gives the car a little sporting edge look.

Hello:
When I was struggling trying to decide color, I decided to go to the New Orleans LBC show. There were 100 or so cars with all color and shades.
You can really see the colors against each other, and make a more confident decision.
I decided on Lexus' Rennaissance Red.
Good Luck on your car, Emmett

Kind of like Randall's, but different...........

Hey Nick
I really love the second TR on your post. In fact we liked it so much that we bought it. We really thought that the two tone paint was nice looking, and the fact that the body work was all ready done with a fresh paint job. ("just al little polishing and she will be as good as new") All we needed to do was rebuild the motor and away we go.
Well after carefull consideration and expert advice we did a complete frame off. There was something about the two tone paint that just did not work. We could not put or finger on it but something wasn't right. So we decided on a solid cream color. See the before and after picts.

I like the two-tone combo's where the sides are a darker color than the top. Accentuates the "fender" lines and the length of the car. Imho that is....

OPPS I DID SOMETHING WRONG!

Dan,
It looks like you have done a lovely job, and quickly too!
I liked the look of your car when it appeared on eBay, but I am always a little suspicious of a car that has nice shiny paintwork, but isn't completed.
It's good to see an eBay car now that it has been restored.
Nick

PS I think all of the kind comments about my car have made me decide to keep it two-tone!

The white with red sides is Ken Gano from Ill, he has about everything you could think of on that car and he drives it everywhere! I saw this a few months back on the TR Registry Australia it was and still is for sale. Very interesting combination.
