i was wondering if a 100/4 100/6 four seater rear shroud could be replaced with a two seater shroud. and if so, what other factors to consider? thanks for input and positive suggestions, maxwedge5281

I'm sure it would fit but the inside of the car is totally different, i.e. jump seats as opposed to flat deck with hatch cover

The hinge areas of the shroud are different aren't they on the later 4 seaters .

The Moss catalog section: "Inner Body Panels 100-6, 3000" shows the numerous differences. The main panels do not appear to be available. You wouldn't be able to get the bulkhead with hole for spare wheel, so you'd still have the spare and battery in the trunk. You'd still have the BN4 or BT7 vin tag.

There was a car for sale in southern Calif that had been converted with a 2-seater shroud and nothing else. It was bastardized. Needless to say, value took a hit.

Car was recently sold. Beautifully done:

I would check Kilmartin's inventory. If they don't list the required parts, Greg & John are very accomodating and might whip something up. When I restored my 100 I needed something that they did not list. Had what I wanted within a couple of days. This would be a good conversion, the two seater looks so much better in my opinion (not that I am biased or anything).

I put a 2 seater rear shroud (from a 6 cylinder car) on a BT7. You should purchase a "Rear shroud support cockpit side" made by Kilmartin - part # AH487. The cost is around $400 through British Car Specialists. The is an add-on and you can use rivets instead of welding it in if you decide to change it back, sell the car, or whatever. I used rivets because if, or when, I sell the car I can easily remove the support kit and put the original 4 seater shroud back on it if a "purist" were to buy it. Other than adding the support kit, there are no modifications that you need to make to install a 2 seater shroud. Again, this info is only valid for the 6 cylinder cars. I believe the 100/4 shrouds have many differences from the later cars.

Any idea what it sold for? Any link to better pictures?

The car was for sale for $85k at the Lime Rock Historics last year. It's a nasty boy and beautifully done. I heard, but can't confirm, it ultimately sold for $65k. It was advertised in the Healey Marque sometime in the last year, but I don't recall if the pics were any better.

Thanks for the followup.

I've ordered directly from Kilmartin and it's significantly less expensive than buying 'local;' shipping is not as bad as you would think.

i finally found an affordable 59 bn6 with a v8 drive line. i recently sold my stock bn6 because i wanted a v8 two seater. i already have a v8 bj7 but it is not nearly as handsome to me as the two seater bn6/7. the one i bought is a bit outlandish and needs considerable attention to bring back to a more original look! it has a sbc motor and transmission. the person i bought it from had owned it since 1976. when he bought it it had an early corvette fuel injection motor. he later sold that but kept the four speed. i got it at what i considered to be a good price and hope it is delivered next week. my plan would be to replace or modify the flared fenders, the wooden dash and gauges, seats and put widened original healey steel wheels with stock healey hubcaps on the car. footboxes are a mess. constructive comments are appreciated but i wanted a v8 two seater and not an original six banger.

Looks like it's pretty close to the same color as mine; Porsche Wine Red (early 70s 911 color). When I first got my BN6 (1978) the son of then Pacific Centre AH Club President, Lou Busch (sp?) was building pretty much the same car. In his case though, I believe the extra weight of the Bondo flares offset and gains in HP the SBC provided!

I like your plan; tone down the looks a little bit, but keep it wild under the hood

BTW, do you still have your 911/sbc? I just received a '94 325i from Seattle to work on; owner wants me to sort out the loose ends on the LS2 (GTO sourced) sbc/6-sp in it. If you still have your Z3/M, maybe an LS# would make its way into that too...?

yes i still have the 911/sbc car....i upgraded from a 383 stroker to a dart all aluminum 434 cubic inch sbc with efi. i also installed a 705 chp mast motorsports ls7 in my 78 930....but a guy in texas made me a good offer and i sold it about six months ago. i sold my z3M coupe a couple of years ago. it was such a nice car that i just did not enjoy putting miles on it and i let it go. so i have the two v8 healeys, the 911 and my everyday driver is a 91 foxbody notchback mustang that is a retired santa clara county calif sheriffs dept car that has been restored...it was an unmarked car and saw very little service and only has 52000 miles......cars, cars....beats all!!

You're Living The Dream Larry!

I can appreciate selling the Coupe for the reason cited, tough the more common reaction is to buy a second one!

Find yourself a decent hi-mileage Coupe, and you've got another LS# candidate! There's actually been a couple of recent threads in the last few of days on Bimmerforums on that very topic.

Be sure to post a bunch of pics of the new BN6__always my favorite too, even for years before I found mine__once it arrives. You know how much we all like pictures!!

One can never have too many fun cars.

in my case I have three race cars that all compete in the same run group (3-4). On two occasions when someone else was driving I got two of them to the same event, but I was responsible for prepping both and it was a PITA so I am thinking about shedding one of the Elvas--but only thinking....
