Hi All. Does any one know what the orignal colour of a 72 MGB engine was.
I am having troble in locating a time clock for my 72 MGB here in OZ. Can any one point me in the right direction as to where I might be able to buy one. Kind Regards John. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Engine color - Black. I'm not quite sure what you mean by a time clock? Could you elaborate some more? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif PJ

*tick-tock* -- tells TIME... sheesh. Colonials. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

There's an outfit someone has posted here before wot makes ~lovely~ clocks... both for speed AND time. I'll try and find it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you mean the clock in the car, remember there is always something on your B that won't work and I prefer it to be the clock. Fix it and something else will instantly break

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif I feel the same way about my spedo... I'll know I've run outta things to fix when I bother with that one.

There is a stamping on the engine block referred to as a "clock". Gives the date that the block was cast.

*sigh* Thanks, Rick. That'n might ba a bit problematic to reset or replace, tho. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Where is said clock and was it on all years?

The Moss catalog says black semi-gloss for engines from 1972 to 1980. Red before that which I think is more like maroon. Moss part number 220-575 comes in a spray can.

On 18G engines it's directly below the oil filter port near the bottom. Circular. Pretty sure all BMC blocks of all displacements had 'em tho not sure about 18V onwards. Rick?

Thanks all. That web site is excellent. Regards John.

If you don't mind a few $ for shipping, try www.holden.co.uk. They sell a Smiths clock that would look "period correct" on a 73 MGB.

Search under Hardware->Gauges->Smiths Classic 52mm. About GBP60.

Yup! That's th' place!

"You da MAN," Jack!

Hay doc, look at my question on the spridget board. Can you provide any words of wisdom?

What a great looking clock! But where would you mount it so it would'nt look out of place in a 72? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif PJ

Clock was a dealer optional item, mount it where ever it will fit. I'm sure the dealers did. I intend to.

Found the answer to mounting the clock at www.gaugeguys. com ,Put in a duel oil press. and water temp gauge and mount the clock in the other hole! A little pricey though. Are the old gauges 52 MM? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif PJ

Yup. 52 at the body, 55 at the bezel.

Just measured the Elan's dual guage to confirm.
