Both are veterans. We met in 1971, Air Force Combat Camera, each. Been closer to one another than with our siblings. Mitsy took this as we were walking from the dock after putting in. Weekend was over.

Sounds like you had a good time doc. No better way then to spend time with good friends.

By the way doc... Change the title to "Two Friends".
You guys are not old!!

Don't consider myself old - but I have old friends - the best kind

I started weedin' out folks who brought stress, only called when they needed something, didn't return favors or brought my stuff back broke but made no effort to repair/replace it.

I now find myself alone ...and I couldn't be happier...:encouragement:

EDIT: I had a friend once...and then he died.... (tomorrow will be three years).

Mebbe if you hadn't of bonked them on the head so hard as kids y'all'da got along better.

The ADULT behavior is what determined relationship.

There's a book called "Generations" out there. Highly informative.

For perspective... my friend and I were born just days less than a year apart, he before me. We met while serving in the USAF in the early '70's. Much experience in common without having to compare notes. We shared eachothers interests and values. He met and knew my parents, I met and knew his. That was very early in our relationship. Those folks were of the "Greatest Generation." We both grew up with stellar counsel, our childhoods were spent near "big water" and boats. We had common interest in European 'sportscars' cars as well. Our only fatefully disappointing issue was the geographic separation of our first twenty years. Once that was understood and overcome we were bonded as better-than-siblings.

Forty-three years, shared triumph and trauma. That has made the bond stronger as we age.

That 'smits recognizes that tie and took the photo above is kinda telling. The funny part is that his second mate (and mine) are finding their bond. They apparently know us too well. I think they plot stuff, too... :smirk:

Neither of us suffers fools well, Billy. Never have. Quite sorry to hear you've lost a true friend, too.

I think we're (my friend and self) apples to your oranges, Billy. Ours were fine through childhood. It has been in our later lives these siblings have become, ummm.... less-than "close."

...and I'm being charitable here.

My two sisters and I fought like cats and dogs growing up and had one of the most intense sibling rivalries out there. If there was something to fight over, we'd fight over it, down two who got to drink the last drop of soda from any given bottle (My parents ended up designating various flavors as our individual sodas to get the last drop). I guess we got all the fighting out of our system, because we get along great as adults. I think part of the reason is that even if we weren't related to each other, we'd still want to be friends with each other.

Doc-
Was over at my next door neighbors today (in Myrtle Beach) and met his friend. Like yours, they have been friends since young, in V.N. together, friends throughout life. Both from Long Island. Both ended up here. Ride matching Harley 3 wheelers. They're just as you described you and your friend.
