....and I still have an oil stain on my garage floor.

Looks more like Charlie Brown, in full profile, running to kick the football that Lucy is holding (out of frame).

Keep the fond rememberances. We're losing one of our small family as I type. No oil stains or evidence to remind us to smile when he's gone.

He's goin' on 18 years. As much a part of this clan as any other mammal.

I will be out in th' back yard planting his Mortal Coil within hours.

What do we actually LIVE for?

Seems absolutely silly to give this planet progeny as the reason just now.

....I'm off to see if a planted mammal will result in a similar being.

Einstein was reportedly quoted as having observed that: Insanity is: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Sorry doc.....

Tough duty Doc, tough duty.

Doc: "What do we actually LIVE for?"

Answer: You cared for that cat. That cat cared for you.

If it should be, that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then, you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
Don't let your grief stay your hand,

For this day more than the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many years,
What is to come can hold no fear.
You'd not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me to the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you'll see it is a kindness you do for me
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Don't grieve it should be you who this thing decides to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold tears.
SMILE, FOR WE WALKED TOGETHER FOR AWHILE.

Remarkable how close we become to them. Bucketloads of smiles over the years. Sorry about your cat, Doc.

I've got an old cat, too. She's 15 and showing the signs. Vet says she'll live "forever", but I know better.

There's a spot picked out for her in the back yard, under the big Elm tree.

The elixir: get another cat at the local SPCA, and pay the love forward. :yesnod:

So sorry Doc. There aren't any right words. All of our pets that are no longer with us are in the china cabinet made by hubby. We had each one cremated. Urn and photo are there. Sounds crazy? Perhaps but nonetheless works for us. Our Golden Retriever, Toby, is either 15 or 17 and each day finds him failing a bit more. So far, no pain. Just loss of hearing, harder to get up and walking and just slowing down. I know the day is coming and I only hope that hubby will be home so I don't have to deal with his passing alone.

Oh cool, a Rorschach test! I see a bust of Jimmi Hendrix wearing a bandana!

I apologize. It was not my intent to hijack Bill's thread.

Truly.
