For you airplane buffs out there, this might interest you...

A Calgary company has just started up new production of the Twin Otter design, taking over from De Havilland who ceased production many years ago... It is essentially the same airplane but with many upgrades... And the news story indicated that they have now started production of ten airplanes in their Calgary Airport hangar, with orders for 50 planes...

Flew all over Baffin Island and Labrador in a Twin Otter doing site surveys for the North Warning system back in the day.

Just watch the beginning of the Olympic coverage on NBC every night, plenty of Twin Otters (and singles) in the background. They even flew around in one the other night.

We dreamed of having one but it's not practical, our new airplane is kind of a mini Twin Otter - close enough anyway :smile:

I remember Twin Otters.
Lucky Duck Airlines (I mean, Pilgrim Airlines), about Feb 0f 1970.

Seating was....odd, and staggered.
Wing braces came through the fuselage and connected to or through the cabin floor.....and vibrated like crazy the entire flight.

I was quite relieved when we finally landed at Groton.

Halfway there (from NY), no cockpit door, mind you, the pilot turned to the copilot and asked if he knew where we were.
Nope.

So, they drop down through the cloud cover to look for landmarks.

Spent some time looking and comparing to Jeppeson charts....then back up.

"Lucky Duck Airlines....never had a quack up yet".

Now THAT is funny.

I remember my youth in the 1960s in Fort Worth. Trans-Texas Airways (TTA). "Ladies and Gentlemen, announcing the departure of TTA flight 16, from one end of the runway to the other."

Pan American pilot: "ETA is 20:15"
Eastern pilot: "Arrival at 8:15pm"
TTA pilot: "Gettin' there maybe Tuesday"
