Take a look at this first broadcast of the Today show (January 14, 1952). When host Dave Garroway reports the weather, he's getting the details direct from the United States Weather Bureau via telephone!


Also interesting - the "music" segment is audio only, with views of the Today studio staff at work. (J. Fred Muggs didn't join the staff until 1953. That'll test your memory!)

What things do you see that are very different from today's morning shows?
 
I remember watching Garroway & J. Fred.
 
I remember. Yes I remember like "I Remember Mama." "Is good, we don't need to go to the bank."

Hate to admit it, but yes I remember that show, not that I paid any attention to it, but it was was always on when aired in our house. :rolleyes: PJ
 
Gale Storm, Life of Riley, I Married Joan, December Bride... and as a five year old I may have been unduly influenced by The Bob Cummings show. :smirk:
 
J. Fred is still alive and well. One of my childhood favorites.

Ah yes - Love That Bob - one of my favorites as well.

So, was it the photography, or the "chase" he was always involved in that influenced you...? :devilgrin:
 
I also enjoyed "You Asked For It." I distinctly remember an episode where they changed a tire on a car without stopping.
 
I think it's it (and surely looks like it)! They would climb out of the car and walk along those running-boards.

Elliot - our TV (Fort Worth TX, 1940s-1960s) wasn't sophisticated enough for Zacherle. We had "Nightmare", hosted by Gorgon (Bill Camfield).
