Forgive me if I sound dumb but I know very little about cars. I just bought an MGB. It's a Jan. '73 model. I have a problem with my turn signals. They work fine at the rear but none up front. I know I can get a wiring diagram but I've looked at it and it is very hard to make out. Is there any easier way to trace the problem?

Check the bulbs first...
Clean the bulb sockets...
Make sure there are not any loose wires under there...
Loosen any ground wires, clean, and re-tighten them.

If that doesn't work... Buy an inexpensive voltmeter and start checking to see where the power is disappearing from.

Staring at a wiring diagram has never fixed anything for me either /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif
 
To add to what Kenny stated, also start checking all of the bullet connectors going to the front indicator lights. Often the crimps on the male bullets develop a high resistance nd have to be replaced with a solder on type. The bullets are available from Britsh Wiring at: https://www.britishwiring.com/ For an easily readable, color coded wiring diagram, go to Advanced Auto Wiring at: https://www.advanceautowire.com/ click on Stock Schematics.
Once you get the front indicator light working, change the flasher unit back to the standard one, somebody has installed a heavy duty flasher that will operate regardles of how many light bulbs are inthe circuit. A standard flasher will not flash if there are less than two light bulbs in the circuit and will flash very fast if htere are more than to bulbs in the ciruit. This is a safety set up so the driver will know if a bub is burned out.

Look up behind your horns & check the connections - look up inside thefender behind the headlight & look the wires over
 
And a simple 12-volt "test light" can be a very handy diagnostic tool if you don't have a V/O meter.
