I installed a new turn signal flasher. The turn signals work fine but the green light continues to blink and the flasher dosn't shut off? Electrical is not my strong point. any ideas on where to look first?

Probably the flasher. Might be the connections to it; but more likely the flasher itself, IMO. I once went through a half dozen or so mechanical flashers, different brands and model numbers, without finding one that worked right. A Tridon EL-13 "electronic" flasher solved the problem.

Another workaround that made the aftermarket flashers work was to change the wiring to the dash lamp; but I don't recommend it.

Same here, I bought a "universal" flasher which didn't work right. Went through two repros before I had one that worked. I'm sure Randall would have mentioned it if there was, but I don't think there is anyplace else that there is a common wire to the dash indicator. I too, am electrically challenged, but you might just check through the connections and make sure they are all in the correct place before you order another flasher unit.

I bought a replacement flasher from MOSS (171-300) for my TR-3A and had the same problem
My right and left signals worked properly with the dash indicator light blinking correctly.
When not signaling, the dash indicator would stay on.
I found a solution on this form, stating that all that is need to fix this problem, is to remove the ground
connection to the dash light indicator and add a wire from WHITE wire (+12v) connection at the ignition switch
to where the ground connection on the indicator lamp.
This fixed my problem with this type flasher. I took apart this flasher to see why it wasn't working.
I found out that there is only one contact the operates both dash and signal lights.
Triumph TR-3A's require two separate contact switches.
Try it before buying more flashers.
