turn signal fire

Hi, just an update from a previous post of mine, had a "small" fire involving the turn signal switch, just recieved the new Lucas switch and will replace along with a battery cut off switch(thanks for the suggestion) over the weekend. Just a point of interest, this might be old news but being a new guy, thought it might help someone. I've ordered and tried to use the OEM blue electrical tape when doing wire repairs, without much success and alot of fustration and usualy wound up using black sticky tape. The other day I was in the local home supply store and came across blue electric tape! bought two rolls for under two bucks! It's not OEM, but hey it's cheap and easy to work with! Re: the OEM Blue Electrical tape. It's really not electrical tape as much as harness wrapping tape and has no adhesive. In fact, when using it to re-wrap the harness it helps to have a container of the Super Glue with the small brush in it and use that to tack the end when you are done wrapping. Also..I would avoid all use of electrical tape for auto repairs. I have done it in a pinch or emergency and carry a roll but the repairs will last better if you get new electrical tube (snap) connectors, bullet connectors that are soldered onto the ends of the wire and buy an old scrap wiring harness so you can replace all wires with the correct color. Sounds like a pain but makes it look great and more importantly when you are looking at a wire later it will relate to the wiring diagram and you won't have to remember what that green wire is connected to. Heard of someone who got car and when he got behind the dash found all red wires....some fun.

My Sprite was wired with all yellow wire - all about 10 guage - At least it was heavy enough - First thing I replaced was the main harness - The limited pain-in-the-butt- of replacing a harness is NOTHING compared to the pain of troubleshooting Jack-legged wiring done to an electrical system of dubious distinction and utilitarianism to begin with..
