Turn blinker lights in a "pillow-dash" Spridget

My '69 Sprite has the stock dash and those worthless lights on the dash to indicate that the blinkers are on. I have found that the self-canceller didn't on several occasions.
I found a way to easily give myself an additional indicator so I would at-least know that they were still blinking.
I went to Radio Shack and got a 12 volt red light (NOT an LED) and soldered two two foot wires on the leads. I unplugged the turn-blinker connector (big rubber one with about 10 connections) put one of the stripped leads into the hole of the green-white wire and one into the green-red wire and plugged the connector back together (and then mounted the light in the dash by the brake light thingie).
Now if either blinker blinks then the red light does too and it isn't hidden by my hands when I am driving.
