Tube Shock Conversion

I removed the lever-arm dampers and installed tube shocks on my sprite on Monday night. My initial impression (only about 10 miles on the highway) is that the tube shocks seemed to provide less bounce reduction than the lever-arms did. That’s not good, huh? Well, i saved all of the old parts so I can swap it back to the old way if need be. Anybody else have the same experience? FYI, I used what seems to be the common shock for this conversion, the Monroe sensa-trac 5877.

I'll add some pictures to this thread (and to my blog) tomorrow. I just opened the door to go take some pictures and was shocked to find out it's dark out already. I really should open some blinds I guess!

Time to send your shocks for rebuild by Peter C. I know I wasn't the only one to make that recommendation.

My tube shocks ride stiff as a board. I do like how they work
when the car is hard pressed however. Very little body roll
even at the edge of loss of adhesion. On a daily driver they
could shake a kidney stone loose.

Seems I have read that the rear roll is benificial that leveling out the rear actually causes less traction for a daily driver???

I'd guess it's a matter of degrees. Too much of anything can be bad whether it is body roll or lack thereof. My suspension is a little bit off stock. For example it has softer than stock rear springs and comp front springs. The lever shocks are still
there in conjunction with the tube shocks. It's lowered and has a sway bar as well.
It seems to handle nicely, but as I said it is stiff.
If it was a daily driver I think I'd prefer the stock set up.
That was the point I was trying to make.

it finally quit snowing enough for me to get the cover off of the car...

Did a search and could not find any info on the tube shock conversion for the B/E. I was wondering if anyone had tried it? There is a kit on ebay now ebay

It seems that with adjustable shocks this might be nice modification.

I read somewhere (I think here) it makes handling unpredictable as the rear tends to slide out unexpectedly under cornering load.
