Try to block junk on ebay

I contacted ebay sometime back about blocking the junk on ebay when I'm looking for Triumph parts. They send it could not be done. Does anybody have any idea if this can be done and how? This one seller with tons of worthless stuff pops up with hundreds of listings. Item location USA. I would hate to try and sell something and be stuck in the middle of the their listings.

I know what your refering to, and it certainly ruins my searches. I don't know the fix, but there might be a way to refine your search by exempting certain things. It's tough enough to get so much of the M/C items when searching TR7, but the rusty junk is in all catagories and still on the car. No point in taking it off until it's sold I guess. I hope someone here can help.

Yep, I was flagging them and gave up. In my opinion its spam, and my opinion Ebay doesn't seem to care - I can't believe it is helping their business though. But in the meantime, I picked up a very nice universal seat cover and car cover set made just for my TR3A, along with a 50's vintage plastic do-hickey that I have no idea what it is but it fits a Triumph!

What grips me the most is when they put every car make ever made in text color that matches the background color. I had done a TR search and pulled up a F-3billion truck and couldn't figure out why. I searched for the word using 'find'(Ctrl+F) and found 'TR4', along with every car ever made... I actually emailed the guy and asked him why? Did he really think I would bounce from looking at TR4 stuff to driving to Dallas to buy a truck???

I would love to have an answer to your question. I have noticed that the legitimate auctions that I would be interested in are shorter. The auction for universal fit items seem to be listed for a much longer time.

Good Luck, and thanks for letting me vent...

Including -fits in your search should eliminate most of it. Example "Triumph TR4 -fits"

Hope this helps

I sent the SAME note to E-Bay awhile back and it seems to me i see a little less, but it still is difficult to search for the REAL stuff. Perhaps if more people sent the same message?

Just finished a new search and had to go thru at least 50 ads for wheel covers that fit TR3'S in 14 inch? Makes no sense to me.

Here is what I did.
I went to advanced search and about 3/4 of the way down the page you will see a sellers section. You put in the names of the specific sellers area and pick from the dropdown exlude.

This has removed most of crap over time. It is just a pain when the seller keeps adding new names.

I like the '-fits' idea, that should help.

Sometimes it is (briefly) amusing like the power window kit for TR3s.

I have been looking for a seat for a VW Van and the listing is clogged with 'racing seats' for the Vanagon. Got rid of those with '-racing' but got me wondering who exactly IS racing Vanagons and where can I go so see this?

Thanks for all the ideas, it seams I'm not the only one bothered by this. Something I used to enjoy has turned into something I don't.

Preliminary heats to the school bus races....

You must mean the hub cap seller........at least 50 listings on the Triumph TR6 parts search and we don't have hubcaps.

I am having some success using the following string for TR2 –TR3 items in ebay UK.

(TR2, TR3, TR3A, TR3B, "tr 3a", "tr 3", "tr 2", "tr 3b", tr3-a, tr3-b, tr-2, tr-3, tr-3a, tr-3b) -yamaha -"gas saver" -transmisor -transmetteur –tribal

You can copy and paste it in the search box in ebay and see what you get.
Adding more “–whatever” to the end of the string you can block irrelevant auctions.

When I search for Spitfire parts I search in "vintage car and truck parts" Very few of the listings you are talking about.

Rhody thanks for the great idea, it works well. In the past I just used ebay motors under TR3.
