No thanks. I wouldn't feel safe reaching under to put the jack stands in place.

I've never thought of a jack as a "throwaway item", but I have a similar jack that cost a similar amount, but from a different retailer (though I would not necessarily refuse the same thing from HF)- it works well.

My HF rule is: Nothing that plugs in.

I have one of these plug-in do-dads from HF, and it has worked flawlessly for me. It is advertised to cut thicker metal than a Porter Cable at ÂĽ the cost. It looks cool under a black light too. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

I would comment that it is not the price of the jack that determines how safe you are putting the stands under, but how you put them under, as even the best jack can slip. I always ensure that should the car drop off the jack that all I have under the car is the stand and one arm, in such a way that I would not get trapped. I recommend that principle to everyone.

I have one like this and a large "good" one. The smaller one lets me so a lot of things the large one can't. It is also lighter so if I need to go somewhere to help It is easily lifted. Bought it when we were drag racing and have never had a problem. If I was in a professional shop I might look at the image factor but for any thing around the house HF is OK. I have one of the air operated metal cutters and it is still going.
 
Anything can fail, but a cheap jack is much more likely to fail than a good one. Sorry, I'm a bit hard-headed about this. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif
