Trunk Lock Assembly

I just got a 'new' trunk lock for my 1970 Spitfire mk3 but seem to get it to work. The handle won't turn independent of the base, the key and lock mechanism seem to have no affect when turned, my old trunk assembly was non-existent so I have nothing to compare it to to see if part of the 'new' one is missing or broken... can anyone tell me what I'm supposed to have or how to dissmantle the whole lock assembly... any help would be appreciated!

thanks,

Alex

The "base" should have a couple of tabs corresponding to slots around the hole in the lid itself; that keeps the base from turning with the handle. Meanwhile, hopefully that handle will turn in the base when off the car. If not, then there's a REAL problem. Otherwise, there might be something amiss in the assembly to the trunk lid?

There's not really much to hold it all in place. The square shaft of the handle goes into the actual latch, and all is held together with a fine-threaded screw and washer into the end of that square shaft.
