Trunk lid buffers on MKII

Is there any reason why I shouldn't put the four trunk buffers my '62' Sprite. It's not drilled for them but that's not a problem.

If it were my car I would install them. The buffers help locate the hight of the trunk lid with the rear panel and also help keep it centered and not chip/hit the sides of the channel when closing it. The trunk hinges are just adequate and are easily sprung/bent and the buffers are insurance. You say it is not drilled for them? Have they been filled in? Look on the inside bottom edge of the lip for where they might have been filled.

I'm down to the metal and no sign of holes. I have a parts car for the proper spacing and have no problem drilling. Thanks for your input.

I noticed this on my 79 and was planning on shimming the hinge where it mounts to the body. The left side of the lid is noticeably higher and it doesn't appear to be warpage.
