TR2/3/3A Trunk Hardboard Back Panel Mounting Panel TR3A

Replaced the eaten out trunk floor with the proper 3A post 60000 series trunk floor, I think from TRF. I was installing the back panel. It is supposed to be secured with standard trim screws. The top mounting was fine the three bottom mounting strips are too thick for the trim screws.Have any of you encountered this problem and if so how did you solve it?

Thanks, Tinkerman

Frank to do that I would have to take the top three screws out. Sorry but I'm disinclined to do that. If you look at your trunk area you will find either two or three pieces of metal about 1X4" at right angles to the floor board and the top of the boot area. If their the same thickness, you have no problem. In my case the floor board pieces are about twice the thickness of the top and the trim screws are not made to handle the thicker metal.
Hope that helps you.

Cheers, Dick

I solved the problem with #6 self tapping screws with cup washers. I had to pre-drill the holes to 5/64s to get them in there. My boot interior is now finished.

Well, almost. I have to trim the hardura mat to fit and tuck it in with the trim screws. Close though, heh.

Maybe this is one of the changes for the post 60000 cars not documented? The SPC shows part number 500228 with 10 for the trunk hardboard with 10 SP.132C/CP cup washers and 4 for the lock lever pull slot plate (AK12) on the doors.

The cup washers are suppose to be SP.132C/CP according to teh SPC but the Standard Triumph Hardware Catalog only shows SP132DCP (#8) and SP132ECP (#10) which makes me think that these should be #6 screws (CCP). Note the cup washers on the door panels are supposed to be CP.132B/CP which would be #4 if the pattern continues(BCP).

Note that TRF substitutes 507819 for 500228 which is the TR4-6 chrome interior trim screw.

I';m sorry that I'm just now posting I used the 5/64 drill bit to pre-drill all of the interior screws that I used.. Also I ended up using #6 screws for the tunk mat because the holes were slightly larger.

Earl, How many screws did you use on the hardura boot floor covering? TRF sent four with the mat but I think more would make sense.

Thanks, Dick

Sorry that I'm just now posting a pic too many long hours right now. Here's a shot of it. The mat was considerably thicker and more flexible than the original. I made the boot closeout my self, but the mat is VB

Thanks for the pics Earl, I can use them also. Nice job on the close out panel!

I know this is an old thread, but can someone provide me with a template for the hardboard boot partition that hides the gas tank? I would be very grateful.
