T-Series Trunk [Boot] latch.

Has anyone ever had to replace the trunk latch on a 70 MGB, or any other year? If you look at it closely there is a small plate with a lip in it that pushes down on the lever to open the trunk. After three hours of trying to open mine with turning the whole outside unit, pushing on the lever until my thumb felt like it was broken /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif it finally caught and the trunk opened. That’s when I saw that the small plate was worn out and it was not catching the trigger part which allows the trunk to open. I have looked in the Moss catalog and several others but cannot find a place where I can replace the locking mechanism. I would like to replace the whole thing if I can find out where to order it from.

Moss has the latch assy. $20.95. Go to Tonys web site, theautoist.com and buy it through him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gifPJ

Those latches have been a problem for me too. Something in the trunk rested itself against that small plate preventing me from opening it. I removed the rear interior panel to find that a PO had already cut a hole in the back trunk wall(probably due to the same issue) I attached a hook to the end of a long stick, then studied another car to plan my attack. Got it opened in a few minutes once I started trying. Then replaced the latch.

I've got several used latch assemblies laying around & can get new ones at a good price.

I've even fabricated the piece that strikes the release and swings out of the way in the "lock" position. I think I used 3/16" steel, a drill, a swiss file and the bench vise... and the BFH!

Improvise!! MacGyver did.

Tony, I went through your site and ordered the part from Moss. Does this order go through you or Moss direct? I was not sure if the order went through you automatically as a dealer. If not let me know how I do it through you in the future.

Hehe, email, PM, or phone.

If you go to the Moss site that's linked to me & order, it goes directly to Moss & you pay their catalog prices...Jack's right: either PM or email me with info.

I've tried not to carry on with any of my little car used or new parts too much here on the BCF but most everybody is beginning to realize I can help them, so..........

Gesh, it is a public service Tony. We got to get em built and keep em running. Your assistance is appreciated by all of us.
