This past weekend was made for top down cruising here in Pa. I got up early and went off to a local place for breakfast. I took a shortcut through a neighborhood where folks were already out in their yards. As I passed one family I heard a metallic noise from behind but a check of the review mirror showed nothing in the road that I had run over so I kept going. Had a good breakfast, read the paper, and left the restaurant. As I approached my car I noticed that the tailpipe on my TR3A was missing. It was old and I almost decided to just go on to the auto parts store and get a new one but, I was only a block from where I had heard that "noise" so I retraced my route. As I came close to the spot,I saw my tailpipe lying next to the curb in front of a house with a couple working in the yard. Rather than stopping and getting out of the car, I just drove close enough to the curb to reach over and pick it up off the pavement. Well the people in the yard began to howl with laughter, and thinking about what I had just done, so did I.
Now I know why the doors are cut down do low on the TR3's, and so do some unsuspecting gardeners.

Just don't do what I did. When I was about 14 and mowing grass, the muffler fell off the mower. So what did I do? Of course, immediately pick it up. Now unbeknownst to me at the time, when something is that hot, it actually fails to register on nerve endings. The first hint I had of trouble was a nasty smell, which I traced to the skin burning off my fingers. During the following quarter century, there would be more mufflers fall off different machines, but being burnt once was enough to teach me that lesson.
