Have a major problem on the farm, had some chickens in one of the sheds keeling over suddenly on Saturday,
On Sunday they were dropping so bad you could see there heads dissapear one after the other as they dropped.
The vet was called in and Avian flu was the major suspect.
site is now under wraps by the government, only a chosen few are allowed on site, myself being one off them,
as the maintenace engineer, it is my job to shut down all the machines in the packkng station ready for a mothballing for a few months.
The biggest outbreak they have ever dealt with in the UK was 300,000 birds, we have that many in two sheds and we have eleven sheds.
The biggest suplier in the UK.
1,200,000 birds are to be culled and disposed of over the next week or so. then the big strip, clean and dissinfect.
Then the site has to lay sterile for four to six months, the government will come in and do regular swabs and tests to make sure the virus has gone,

Luckily we have another packing station where we can run double shifts seven days a week, so most of us still have a job.
but we will be short of 1,000,000 eggs a day, so the prices of egg is going to sky rocket in the super markets.

So sorry you're going through this - another sad but almost inevitable outcome of monoculture in a closed environment.

This is egg-actly what Oprah Winfrey warned us about 6 years ago! I loved a fried egg sandwich and hope everything comes out fine in the end. I will pray for you and the new eggs or chickens, which ever comes first?

yikes - good luck

The "bird" flu is spreading all over the place. The US they've reported has had several million hens culled due to it and it's been found in cows now too. It's a major reason why eggs are so expensive here.

It has been found in humans too.

Last time I looked in the supermarket, just over $4 a dozen. And from the deli, hard boiled and other prepared eggs, $6-$7 for a half dozen. More than I'd want to pay.

Just heard tonight that 130 million chickens and ducks in the USA have been euthanized because of bird flu.

They use carbon dioxide. Tankers full of the stuff
Liquified CO2 is fed into a machine that heats it up so that it vaporises properly and is clear. If they don't do this the CO2 will make a mist that spooks the chickens and they don't want to scare them. It's done as humanly as possible.
The site is like something from a sci fi movie.

Read recently that the only duck farm on Long Island must kill their entire flock of nearly 100,000 birds due to bird flu and they may go out of business.

In the uk. The farmers are compensated for any healthy birds that have to be killed to stop the spread.

Now I have it. 🤬
Sore throat from heck. Joints aching I didn't know I had. Skin is prickling all over. Even my scalp.
Pink eyes. Coughing
Have been given anti viral medication that should sort it 🤞.

A couple of days ago I started feeling "drainage" and scratchiness in the back of my throat. I could tell that something was beginning top happen. I immediately took some "Airborne" tablets dissolved in water, then NyQuil at night. Next day the drainage was still there and throat still scratchy with a little soreness staring, so I took some additional Airborne, and NyQuil at night. After three days, it feels like it is getting much better and almost back to normal. I will say that sometimes Airborne works great (for me) if I take it soon enough. Knock on wood, I think I dodged a bullet this time.

PS: Hope you feel better soon. I know how it sucks to have a cold/flu.
