For those in clubs looking for a way to support troops, here is what my driving club does:

"Many of those who attended BRRTA's 5th annual, after Christmas party in Chambersburg, January 18th generously donated items for our combat-area troops. As a result, we were able to pack up two large cartons and mailed those out to the following units on January 22nd:

455th ESFS/FPASS, Afghanistan c/o SSgt Dan Garcia, USAF,"Any Airman" local sponsor, and
FOB Dragon, 2nd PLT A-co 3-187, Iraq c/o SPC Wondall Bates, USA,"Any Soldier" local sponsor.

We selected these units based largely on the number of personnel assigned and the kinds of items they'd requested via the web site (e.g., SSgt Garcia's unit specifically asked for note pads, pens, and markers, among others, and your contributions included a good number of those.).
As with last year's boxes, we included a letter to each unit with a short background on BRRTA and a wish that they stay safe, get home soon.
Combined website follows"

Just a thought that meetings, shows, etc. provide an opportunity we might not think of.

Good post!! Great idea /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif for other clubs too!! Thanks also!!

Back during Desert Storm, I remember those "any soldier" letters & packages....whenever my name came up i the rotation & they handed me one, I just carried it to my soldiers & the soldiers loved them - thanks so very much for them!

I have been donating to the wounded warrior project
https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/

This gives the people coming back who are seriously wounded things that they need for every day during their stays in hospitals. I have been doing this for about a year and a half now.

It makes me feel like I am giving something back to those who are going into harms way for us.

Nice Ron, very nice. These are just a few of my heros. There isn't room enough to show them all.

When I travel out of the country, I always buy a calling card to keep in touch with Jerri - when I get ready to fly home, I hand it over to the first soldier I see so he can use the minutes that are left.....calling cards are good things also.

I always grab one of the AT&T ones sold at the local military PX.

There is also a good program to donate your old cell phones to soldiers. I just sent my old ones off a couple of weeks ago. They even pay the postage.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif I always encourage people to donate their old cell phones /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif (In this day and age I'll bet everybody has an old one or even more kicking around the back of some drawer!!)

I must have five phones laying around here. I'm boxing them up and sending them out tomorrow. At least they will go to a good use, and not taking up space.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif I believe that Radio Shack (no plug intended here!) will collect and ship them for you also!!

dart, thanks for the info, wish ida seen this sooner i just vaporized my cell phone against a stone wall, plenty of other stuff i can send, those calling cards look like a good idea. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

Thanks for the additional ways to help from you all, the thing we need to do is pass it on to our clubs -newsletters, meetings, etc.- so we can spread the word and round up recruits.
