Triumph's MPG

Last time I check my Tr3 it was around 30 mpg.

I've had everything from 25-32 mpg in my '80 Spit. When everything is tuned correctly and there is not a stuck float dumping fuel, it runs aroubd 30.

Plan a low of 20 and high of 32. It really depends on:
1) Carb mixture settings and quality of the needles/diaphrams
2) Timing
3)The right foot of the driver
4) Cruising speed

When it's summer and you're driving an English sportscar - Does it really matter? It's not like you need a second mortgage to fill your tank like I do in my Ram pickup - 35 gal tank x $1.85 per - hummm....318 c.i.d. v8 - crap.... But even that has it's bright spot - When it's 20 deg outside with freezing rain falling and the lbc is tucked safely away in the garage or carport it's mighty nice to have that massive body around you and that killer heater crankin' out the BTU's - THAT'S when mileage in the truck doesn't matter!

I would also think whether you have Over-Drive or not will make a difference. I've asked the same mpg question, and most say to figure about 25 mpg.

Hmmm......TR6.......teenager........I'm guessing less than 20 mpg! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Dont forget back in the 50's the factory took a tr2 and got 75+ mpg(on a closed course with rock hard tires, a bellypan, no windscreen and a tonneau cover ect)

Spirited stop-n-go city travel gets me about 21 mpg. Cruising 65 mph I typically see 28 mpg. I live in hill country, so as a flatlander I would expect to see better. I have O/D which helps the cruising economy. I'm also runnning 9.5:1 CR, and the top is rarely up.

The only time I measured it I got 34mpg in my single carb Spitfire

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif Wow, even though they added all that extra stuff, that's very impressive.

Webb, the rock hard tires were for lessened rolling resistance, and the belly pan, windscreen removal, and tonneau cover were for less drag. Common practices when attempting artificial "High Mileage " runs.

I got 25 mpg highway driving "sensible".
Going +85mph (w/o OD) it dropped to ~17'ish.

Now, with a V8 it depends on what you wanna feel...
ate a Z3 today...lol

When these cars were built, the "MPG" acronym wasn't even widely used. With gasoline at $0.50/gal, it didn't much matter. So, at the time, the 24MPG my GT6 gets was relatively high. Now, it's less than my full-sized Chrysler gets (3.2L V6) but we don't really drive these cars for mileage anyway!

Hi Webb 72 miles per gal (Imperial) X .82 = 60 m/g (US) Still pretty awsome. I have a friend who went in a milage run in his TR3A got 45 MPG. He was tweaked about as fine as frogs hair. I had a quick run to Calgary last weekend to look at a boat. About 150 miles door to door each way and I averaged 25 mpg, but I kind of had my foot in it all the way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif Boats can get me almost as excited as TR's. and re your spares thread, I took my credit card. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF Brian

24-30 MPG for 4 and 6-cylinder TRs was good mileage for its time. Interestingly, those numbers are not too different from my TR8. On a recent 800-mile trip, I averaged 23.4 MPG overall (with the AC on for most of the trip) and had one relatively flat, 200-mile leg that was 26.1 MPG (though admittedly with the AC turned off since it turned cloudy).

First tank with the V8 in city was 14 mpg. ouch.... Of course I was driving it like someone of a "lesser age". Accelerates like a bat.....Drivetrain is holding up very well. Next trial is straight highway mileage. Runs 75 mph at 1,800rpm - and it has NO harmonics drone like the old straight 6. Can't even hear the engine run. So far, so good.....
34 mpg - that's good in my book for most anything pre-1980.
will keep posted.
Jeff
