Many of you will remember my posts, as well as Glenn Merrell's, who was instrumental in making all this happen, about John and his drive across America, and into Canada, in a restored Triumph Stag. That was the summer of 2009, and I can't believe it was that long ago!

Anyhoo, John has written a book chronicling his trip, which was an effort to raise funds for the study of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Janet and I were fortunate enough to host John as he made his way, and made a fast friend with him. I've read his book and posted a review on the website. Trust me: the book is wonderful! Anyhoo, John has written a book chronicling his trip, which was an effort to raise funds for the study of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Tonight is the 9th class of the 12 week Family-to-Family Education Course (NAMI) that I'm teaching, this time at our local VA. This class has lots of family members of vets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan who, among other things, suffer PTSD. NAMI recently added a separate module on PTSD as a result of the large number of vets returning with the disorder. I'll have to look up John's book.

As someone who participated in the restoration process I found the book most fascinating especially when John finally opened up as to why he took on this effort.

from food poisoing,so I never got to meet them,or even see

I must say that the seeds John and I sewed across that 18000 mile drive across North America have taken root in ways we had not anticipated. Of course our focus was far wider than military, reaching out to all areas of the populous affected by PTSD - first responders to any tragic emergency whether trained or personally involved are susceptible to PTSD, any traumatic life event can trigger far reaching symptoms that impact many lives.

BTW, do please buy the book, Turn Left at the Pacific which Chronicles the whole life event from it's inception through planning to the sale of UJ. This book contains sections from myself, Joe Pawlak, and of course the wives' viewpoints. John has a sort of literal log of daily events as they occurred with his candid observations and feelings at the moment.

And I'll add my endorsement of the book to Glenn's. John is a great guy, and his writing is first rate. It's a wonderful chronicle of his adventures across N. America, as well as some very good info about PTSD.

Janet and I are considering a trip over to England this year, and you can bet we will be visiting John and Liz!
