Post-War Other Triumph Herald Engine ID

Recently picked up a '63 Herald 1200. Groovy little car, but the engine S/N says it's an earlier 948cc engine, not the 1200. Short of pulling the head and measuring it, I can't think of any other way to find out. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Paul R.

The engine serial number pretty much says it all. If the prefix is G, it was a single-carb 948. If it is Y, it was a dual-carb 948. I don't think it was possible to bore out a 948cc to 1147cc, as the bore spacing changed slightly between the two engines.

S/N is Y20920HE. It has a single Solex downdraught carb on it now, so looks like several changes have been made over the decades. Many thanks!
