A friend and I drove our TR6's to Penn State yesterday. A round trip of over 300 miles with zero problems. Great roads and beautiful scenery, and some very good IPA's last night.

Interesting, his engine is stock with no OD. My engine is upgraded and running on triple carbs and OD. He averaged 20.7 miles per gallon while I averaged 25.8. The numbers seemed like they should have been reversed.

You have the OD which means less rpm, less gas. Lots of other things to consider also.

We drove all secondary roads at a leisurely pace over very hilly terrain. Yes, the OD reduces rpms, but I also have three carbs that are set richer than his two. I went into the trip expecting about 18 mpg. We were both shocked to see nearly 26 from this engine.

That's because you are awesome Doug! Don't question the awesomeness!

Jerry, I checked it a couple times...maybe my smart phone isn't too smart! Looked into the tank to make sure it was full. It was raining most of the trip so we weren't able to push it. Heard there was a good turn out for the Fall Leaf...sorry to miss it.
SD, been called several terms that begin "a", but not sure if awesome is one of them.

Stock carbs are not that great for gas mileage. I know on the TR8s, its common that swapping in a performance cam, headers and a four barrel Holley will not only give much better performance, but you can get better gas mileage as well. Not to mention better starting and easier to work on.
