Trick or treat

I live in the best neighborhood. A group of about eight young boys probably between 11 and 13 just came to my door. They were all dressed for Christmas. A few presents a Christmas tree and even a Santa. Each one said thank you and one even asked how my car was coming along.

There is hope for civilization. :fat:

Happy Halloween!

Hate Halloween . They don't bother to ask trick or treat . They just egg the place anyway without even knocking. One of the imports from across the pond I could happily live without .

If I had that happen to me I'd probably hate it too. Happily, I've never (so far, knock on wood) had that happen. This year mostly just smaller kids with their parents. All very cute.

Not entirely our "fault". Origins are Celtic/Druid/Roman Catholic.

And what have the Romans ever done for us....

OOPS!

Tried to respond and edited your post instead.

What I was saying is that the Romans did make some pretty nice candles...

Guess I got up too early this morning!

Reg: All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

Attendee: Brought peace?

Reg: Oh, peace - shut up!

Reg: There is not one of us who would not gladly suffer death to rid this country of the Romans once and for all.
Dissenter: Uh, well, one.

Reg: Oh, yeah, yeah, there's one. But otherwise, we're solid.

Here I always assumed that what the Romans gave us was the English accent. Really, have you ever seen a movie about the Romans where they didn't sound English??....

As for trick or treat, had a lot of kids show up since it was low 60s out. Most were little guys and girls with mom and/or dad, but if I had a daughter don't know that I'd allow her out the way some of those tweens and early teens were dressed.

I've called somewhat in jest Halloween candy as "enlightened self interest". Perhaps someday one or more of those kids as teens will be out raising a ruckus late some night and when they reach my place will say I treated them well with candy each year so let's move on. It could happen....

Must agree. And love the Ayn Rand reference.
