Healey 100

Two of us are getting ready drive Healeys to Conclave in Burlington, VT. Rather than spending my time getting our car ready, I put together this blog:

Burlington or Bust

How much gets added depends on how it goes. We will try to update it daily, once we get on the road.

Any others out there going to Conclave? Let us know, we'll look for you...

Way to go "Sullivan's!" I'll be checking your progress. Oh yes, ladies - don't let the guys get lost. You'd best be checking the maps. You know they won't ask for directions!!! If you all make it to Burlington, I'll know it's because of the ladies!!!

Hi Bill,

3 cars from St Louis and 3 cars from KC will be leaving St. Louis the morning of the 21st. We are taking two day to get to Sarnia, ON where we will be meeting 7 or 8 cars from the Chicago area. We will go to Burlington by way of General Wolfe Island, by Kingston, On.
Look forward to seeing ya'll there.

I hope and pray all of you arrive safe and sound.

Just wondering, is anybody going to use one of the GPS navigators? I know of one couple who uses a separate small battery that works in a Healey.

Any comments SJGCPA?

My wife has a Magellan GPS system that plugs into her cigarette lighter in her 2003 Volvo. I bought a Werker 12 volt battery that weighs about 2 pounds from BatteryPlus and a 12 volt DC adaptor from Radio Shack. We then connect the GPS system to the adaptor which is connected to the battery and a way we go. Works great. Our 66 Healey is positive ground so I did not want to hook up directly to the cars electrical system. I was afraid it might damage the GPS system.

We do not have a GPS navigator, and we managed to get fairly lost yesterday. Maybe next time.
Trip Blog

I have used a Magellen and Garmin on other trips. I was impressed with them except for traveling on secondary roads -- which we prefer. They can be programmed to go secondary, but that is a lot harder, the default is always freeway. This was especially true for the Garmin unit, the Magellen was a bit more flexible.

We rigged up a lighter socket on our Healey this time -- so we could charge our cell phone, how moderne! Fortunately, my Healey has negative ground, so the charger works OK -- I don't know, it might work on positive earth too.
