TR2/3/3A Transmission Tunnel Configuration

Can someone provide a photo of an unmodified TR3A transmission tunnel on the handbrake side? Mine has this crude patch where the handbrake and speedometer cable meet.

It also has four carpet snap holes on the driver's side and three holes on the handbrake side. Believe there should only be four total? Thanks - Walter

Hi Walter...

I have a couple sitting in the garage...I'm at work now but if someone doesn't post a pic before I get home, I will post a couple for you.

Cheers

Thanks, Tush. Really appreciate it. - Walter

This is not a great picture, but only one I can find. My car is very early TR3, but suspect tunnel is same. Sure Tush will be able to get better pictures for you.

Cheers, Mike

Hello Walter

As far as I know mine is unmodified. It has 2 snaps on the passenger side and 1 snap + 1 hole for a snap on the deivers side.

Good Pic David.

The hole in the side of the tranny cover is for the speedometer cable on the overdrive trannys. The boot that is sold is for covering this over plus providing a boot for the base of the parking brake.

Thanks to all of you guys. So that nasty looking homemade plate covering the handbrake/OD speedo cable area is just that, and shouldn't be there. I have the TRF handbrake boot kit that would mount there. I'm guessing extra holes were added for carpet snaps at the bottom on both sides, although they all look original; three on the passenger side and four on the driver's side.

Walter,

Without an OD transmission, that hole in the side by the hand brake is unnecessary as its only there because that is where the speedometer cable plugs in. When you pulled the transmission cover off, do you remember if it had the rubber boot kit? Prior to installing my OD transmission, my car had no rubber kit either and solution was much cruder than what yours looks like. I assume now it was to block any water from getting onto the carpet.

Hi Bill,

I hadn't thought about that and it makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, I didn't pull the cover for this restoration but want to say that it did not have the boot kit - at least the rubber was gone - when I parked it in '98, but would have had originally... and of course my original configuration was without OD.

Wonder if that crude plate covering the hole could be from the factory. It has dissimilar Philips screws, and Philips were less common on these cars... who knows!

Thanks for this.

Regards, Walter

I think the Phillips screws are a sure sign that it is not factory. I think in a previous post we all decided there are only a couple Phillips screws on the entire car. They were extremely rare.
