Hi all,
I have a 1974 1275 Midget. Last fall, it was a time for a new transmission (it was grinding into most gears), so I ended up replaced it with a newly rebuilt transmission. The clutch had been replaced two years prior, but I replaced the ring gear and release bearing this time around as well.
Afterwards, once the temp would get to normal, I experienced a noise while depressing/releasing the clutch pedal. My mechanic (who aided me with the swap) took a ride in it and concluded the problem to be in the transmission. I also experienced difficulty shifting into second gear at times. Long story short, I ended up replacing the transmission with another rebuilt one.
I no longer experience the noise, and I can shift into all gears smoothly, but I now get a NEW noise just in second gear. The noise is most apparent when shifting into and out of second gear, but I can often recreate the noise by pulling back hard on the shifter into second. The noise occurs regardless if the clutch is in or out. The noise doesn't occur at idle.
It might be important to note that both of the newly rebuilt transmissions weren't supplied with a reverse light switch (of which my car needs), so I was forced to use the neck of my original transmission in both cases.
Also of note, I just finished replacing the clutch master cylinder, rebuilding the slave cylinder, and redoing the clutch lines.

This is a link to a video I shot quickly this morning since it can be quite difficult to explain sounds using words. In both instances, I happen to be downshifting (and elongating the circumstance the second time).
Any insight on the matter is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Scott
