I'm in the process of rebuilding a ribcase transmission for my BE and discovered that the laygear, reverse gear and 1st gear are pretty chewed up. There is some lateral movement of the first motion shaft where it meets the mainshaft. The bearings look good and depending on gear selection are either very smooth or rough which I attribute to the rough gears. This looks to be a regular ribcase with bevel cut gears and I have a spare that I was going to use for parts. When I opened the spare I discovered that it has straight cut gears and looks to be in great shape, very tight and smooth, with a 'wandering' gear shift lever. Is there an advantage of one ribcase over the other not considering the gears to be replaced? The regular transmission has MA with 12038 below and the straight cut gears have MC with 5177 below.

Put in the square cut unit after changing the shift tower...............Good to go!!! :savewave:

The shift lever problem could also be caused by a missing spring & plunger in the shift tower awa a worn out 2A3339 shift lever cover (NLA) :wall:
