Transmission/Overdrive Wiring

Couple of questions:

On the transmission case for my MGB there are three switches - two I've identified: reverse switch and isolation (both same size and type). There's another smaller switch on the extension for the gear shift. Can't find it in either Moss or VB. Is that for a starter interlock? The car is a '73.

Also, on the bottom of the overdrive, there is a wire coming out of the filter housing. It is/was cloth covered, and is faded and frayed, so can't tell its color. What does that connect to? There is an extra wire with a bullet connector on the new harness I got for it - maybe yellow and purple? - is that where it goes?

Thanks in advance,
Mickey

Mickey, The yellow/purple wire is indeed the one that goes to the solenoid. It is brown/purple at the switch. If the wire is OK and just the insulation is bad, replace it with some heat-shrink tubing otherwise you have to solder on a new wire. Get a new 'D' shaped grommet also to protect the wire as it comes out of the housing. Good luck!

Thanks, Timbo. I assumed that to be the case, but neither wire is long enough to reach the other, and both have bullet connectors. No problem fabricating an extension; just didn't want to fry anything down there.

Got the answer to the overdrive question - now for the other one.

What's that smaller switch on the gear shift extension for?
