I read on another forum that some oils should not be used in the transmission/overdrive units due to a high sulfur content as it can damage the brass synchronizing rings. What's the story on this? I just drained the 2 year old tranny oil to work on the OD and the oil was perfectly clean and no crud or filings in the bottom of the box. I used 20/50 Penzoil in it. First I ever heard this. PJ

I'm pretty sure John at Quantumechanics suggest using a non degergent SAE30W, but I too have used 20/50 for years with no problems.

From the late '70's I, too, have used 20/50 in the BMC boxes, O.D. and non-O.D. with no known issue. Some clients in our care for decades, personal vehicles as well.

Thanks guys, I never had any issues with it either and the OD shifts very smooth. Penzoil 20/50 goes back in. PJ
