Transmission light on when hot 1991 xj-6

etcetera

When it's hot out, and the car fully warms up, the tranny light comes on, and of course goes into limp home mode (man that should have been 2nd gear, not 3rd).

I bought the stuff to change the fluid and intended to do it the other night, but wanted to check with you guys on possible causes to this fault, that way if I have to drain it, I won't be draining fresh fluid.

On a related note, Dexron III is a suitable replacement for Dexron II in a Jaguar right? It says so on the bottle, but?...

The fluid that's in there now smells clean, but is of unknown age. Level is about right.

Not sure exactly what the problem was, but I got it fixed. I changed fluid and filter, disassembled and cleaned all the electrical connections.

Drove about 120 miles today. No problems, no light.
