Folks:
When I rebuilt the mechanical systems on this TR4A IRS (no OD), I did not rebuild the gearbox. It operated very nicely and seemed okay. I cleaned and repainted the exterior and changed the oil completely. The car has been driving for over a year and there is no apparent operational problem with the gearbox. I have noticed a significant amount of oil under the car after being parked for a while. My first thought was the rear engine seal, even though I had it changed to the new style when I had the engine block redone. (Engine sat for almost a year before running after the rebuild) While the leak is reasonable, I do not see a drop in engine oil level. This is making me think that it may be the gearbox leaking from the front seal perhaps (maybe a bit at the rear but hard to say). As most of you know, it is sometimes hard to see exactly where the oil is coming from.
If the gearbox seal or seals is leaking, I really am not relishing the removal and seal replacement right now. I have heard some good things about Blue Devil products for sealing leaks and they do have a transmission product for auto and manual gearboxes. Does anyone have experience with these products - good or bad? Just wondering if it might be an easy and effective way to go until time allows for the removal and resealing of the gearbox.
