I have a 77 Midget and am running 90W oil in the trans. I see some MGB and Trumph TR-7 run ATF in their manual trans. Actually the factory spec'd it for the TR-7 5 speeds as they are poor till warm with original 80-90 gear oil. Didnt see anything in the Midget archives on this.

Has anyone run ATF in the Midget box? My sons 77 MGB runs ATF and has over 100,000 on the clock. Shifts smooth. My midget had 90,000 on it and I need to work the shift slowly. Understandable with the age but wondering if ATF would smooth it out without killing it. Thanks for any thoughts or experiences.

I've had great success with Mobil 1 or Red Line sythetic gear oil. Makes shiftng much nicer on my '78 1500 Spridget. No experience with using ATF.

I'm almost certain the weight on the typical redline synthetic oil for 1500's is 75w90. It really does work, and it's fantastic to see the improvement.
