Does anyone know the size (diameter) of the larger drain plug on the gear box of a BJ8? Kragen had several 1/2 socket(?) wrenches on their rack and the larger one looked close to the diameter of the one on the Healey.

Are you talking about that big brass plug on the bottom of the overdrive TH ??-Keoke

Isn't it the same 7-16" square hole plug as the rear axle? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Don't you worry about those other guys TH. I sometimes get my drain holes mixed up too.

SHhhhhhh Dave, /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif But, TH just might stumble on to sumpin.--Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

They have them in 3 sizes I think to 2 1/2 inches. I cannot get to the car until Sat or I would measure it. Seeing the picture anthony posted makes me think it will not work do to it needing 6 pins. It looks like the socket I've got for the rear axle which has a 1/2 drive but has geometricly placed pins.

Yes TH, I have not found anything off the shelf that readily adapts to that plug either. A small tapered piece of hardwood tapped with a hammer will probably loosen it they usually are not frozen up.---Fwiw-Keoke

P.S. You do not need all six pins if you find one where two of the pins will line up thats all you will need.- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen (? ladies too?) -

My father always told me to use the right tool for the right job. The right tool for this is available here:

https://www.britishtool.com/servtool.htm

as well as from the Nocks at British Car Specialists in Stockton CA. Although $45 from British Tool is expensive, this is really something you should have in your tool box for routine maintenance. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

This is what it looks like:

Don't be a knuckle dragger... drain your OD/gearbox properly.
