Trans compatibility

I just sold a 10CG engine to a guy and am now wondering if his smooth case will bolt up to it. I know there was a difference in the thickness of the engine back plates and am wondering just what is compatible with what???

The 10CG was complete with flywheel and back plate.

Also have a 10CC that he is interested in and I believe that will have to bolt to a ribcase.

Experts, please advise??????

Kurt.

Transmission input shafts are different in length. So he will have to uses his backing plate.

Part numbers for backing plates

9C: 886-226
10CG: 12g-275

Kurt, it will bolt up but there will be issues with using the right back plate fork and front cover with the much larger, taller clutch kit used on the 1098. I've never tried that combination; it may work, but probably not too well. I'm pretty sure the fulcrum points make it operate pretty wonky. However, the 948 flywheel will fit a 10CG crank, so if you stick with the 948 clutch/flywheel, it'll probably be fine. The 10CC is a different ball game altogether.

I have a Tech article covering all the differences:

Thanks much folk's....of course the 948 flywheel will bolt up and the engine plate will swap!! Doh!! I'll let him know.

I don't know if the 948 flywheel will bolt onto the 10CC crank
If the 1098 pressure plate is used it will interfere with the smoothcase bellhousing- need to grind away some of the bellhousing to make it work

Thanks, Bill, but I talked him out of the 10CC engine unless he can come up with a rib case. I'm still using that trans and not willing to let it go. BTW the 10CC is still a four bolt though the hub might be a different diameter. The 10CG was supposed to be a recent overhaul according to the PO and since he is trying to put a ratty BE on the road without spending a pile I think it will work for him. I've tried to sell it for years and am glad that someone can put it to use! $50 made it kind of a gift!

It won't. The 10CC has a larger bolt circle. What I wrote is that it will fit a 10CG crank, which has the same bolt circle.
