I got my transmission back today.

I hooked the shifter up to check it out on the floor. I found 2nd and 3rd pretty easily.

I was not able to shift into 1st, 2nd, or reverse.

When it is in neutral, I spun the front shaft and the rear shaft was still moving.

I was told that the transmission will be pretty aggressive until it gets saturated in oil and such...
Has anyone else experienced this???
 
That does not sound right to me!! Where did you "get it back" from?
 
I sent it to a guy in Tenn. He has probably built a few hundred of these, however, it doesn't seem right to me either. I would hate to drop her in just to have to take it back out.


I tried to build it myself and it just wasn't working out... Long story short, after two weeks and a lot (and I mean A LOT) of choice words, I sent it away.
 
I have only re-done a couple (one of them more than once) and have not found them to be real hard! When done, they should go through the gears smoothly even with just the oil I used during assembly! The rear shaft may turn while in neutral, but should not if you apply a bit of resistance!

I will try holding the rear shaft while I turn the front. I wonder what it wrong with shifting?
 
The little "detent" bearings (balls)may be "hung up", not be inserted correctly or not well lubricated, not allowing the selector shafts to move "cleanly". The selector forks may not be seated in just the right position in their notched seats.
 
I would try it and see what happens! If you still have a problem it's no big deal to drain it, and oiling it might be all it needs to "free-up". You can check the forks through the side cover, but unfortunately the detents require further dis-assembly of the tranny to access them.
