MGB Trailering an MGB. . .

Never being one to avoid running my ignorance up the flagpole... I have to ask for some tips on trailering an MGB. I've got a tilt-trailer lined up, with some chains and boomers, but I'm not sure what (on the vehicle) I should wrap around. I certainly don't want to damage anything in the process.

Any tips on trailering an MGB ('79) guys and gals? Looks like I'm bringing 'er home tomorrow. Pictures (no doubt) to follow! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I trailer mine all the time...under the front bumper are a couple of tow hooks (if some PO hasn't removed them) whewe I hook my tow straps....on the rear, I wrap straps around the differential housing & then hook my tie downs to them.
 
To make me sound slightly less ignorant, (For those who did not see my earlier thread) it was given to me and I accepted it sight-unseen. I'm a complete newbie to MGs and haven't even laid eyes on this one yet.

The front tow hooks are good news. (Hopefully, I won't have to make use of them very often!) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Aha! Thanks Ed. It is possible to AVOID them while wrapping the chain around the backend?
 
DO NOT WRAP A CHAIN AROUND THE DIFFERENTIAL....you'll notice I said "strap".....go down to Trailer Supply Company & buy fabric straps that have "D" hooks on the ends - wrap them around the axles right out by the springs.

Oh, if the front tow hooks are gone, the sway bar links are strong enough to hold her

When she's tied down on the trailer, engage the emergency brake & put her in gear.
 
So I'm hooking the chains to the "D" hooks on the fabric tow straps? (Just want to make sure I've got a clear picture here).
 
stay away from the chains and boomers. If you have a Harbor Freight store, they have 2" tie down straps that are plenty strong enough, and at my store, they are on sale right now
 
Yep....fabric straps around differential out by springs then chains - but I don't like to use chains anywhere...I prefer fabric come-alongs
 
Ace Hardware has em, Home Depot has em, Kmart has em, Lowes has em. Hehe and cheep enough.
 
For my money that is not strong enough for a full up vehicle. Get the larger size like that. You will find each type rated for a weight/load.
 
Get the biggest ones you can find - & least 3" straps...2 on front, 2 on rear...I've been using mine for well over 10 years
 
Wal-Mart has them, and lists the amount of tensile strength they are rated for in large print... I bought a small one today to replace the hold-down strap on my boat trailer.
